Founded in 2016 in Singapore, Thunes’ platform facilitates international money transfers. Its network, the Direct Global Network, is directly connected to over 12 billion mobile wallets (PayPal, Orange Pay, etc.), stablecoin wallets, and bank accounts, as well as 15 billion cards via more than 220 different payment methods (GCash, M-Pesa, Airtel, MTN, JazzCash, Easypaisa, AliPay, WeChat Pay HK, etc.).
Thunes’ Direct Global Network stands out for its global reach, its proprietary cash management system SmartX, and its compliance platform Fortress, ensuring speed, control, visibility, security, and cost efficiency for real-time payments. Thunes’ clients include companies such as Uber, Deliveroo, Airbnb, and Western Union.
This widespread presence, combined with the wide range of services offered by Thunes, led the British firm Juniper Research (a leading authority in technology market analysis, with 6 million data points analyzed across 60 countries) to rank the Singapore-based company among the top three global leaders in payment infrastructure, alongside Swift and Visa, and ahead of Mastercard. Juniper Research’s “Cross-border Payments Market 2026-2030” report evaluated 14 infrastructure providers based on the total value of payments processed and the diversity of use cases covered. It highlights a shift in the market, where competitive advantage relies less and less on transaction volume and increasingly on technological innovation. This is an area where Thunes excels compared to its competitors.

“Thunes has particularly distinguished itself through the creativity and innovation of its platform, which has enabled the creation of a network of real-time payment connections capable of transforming the cross-border payments market. Its wide range of local partnerships also allows it to ensure strong interoperability between different systems and markets,” says Lorien Carter, Senior Research Analyst at Juniper Research.
For her part, Thunes’ deputy CEO makes no secret of her pride. “Being ranked among the top three global leaders alongside two industry veterans is a major milestone for Thunes. By ensuring deep interoperability across billions of access points and often fragmented markets, we offer real-time global connectivity, 24/7, which Juniper identifies as the future of international payments.”
