As part of this alliance, Sun King solar home kits and lanterns are now available from MTN Zambia sales outlets. Consumers can purchase them via the MoMo mobile payment service, with instalment options and a 10% discount for early payment. This model is based on the "pay-as-you-go" principle, which enables users to finance the purchase of their solar equipment progressively and easily from a cell phone.
This partnership is part of the Mission 300 initiative, through which Sun King, which is present in the Vintage FPCI Altaroc Odyssey 2021, aims to provide clean electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030. It relies on the capillarity of the MTN network to extend distribution to rural areas, where electrification remains a major challenge. By integrating MoMo's digital payment solutions, Sun King is strengthening both its energy impact and its commitment to financial inclusion.
"Access to affordable energy cannot be achieved without proximity and financial innovation. Through this partnership with MTN, we are combining both levers," explains a company spokesperson.
Sun King claims more than 102 million beneficiaries in 40 countries. With this new deployment in Zambia, the company is strengthening its presence in a region where less than half the population has stable access to electricity.
Alongside this agreement with MTN, Sun King is also working with Ecobank Zambia to offer bank financing solutions to complement its solar offering.
