Today, nearly 1.8 billion people worldwide live without reliable access to electricity. To light their homes or power their work, these families and small businesses often rely on dangerous kerosene lamps or very expensive and polluting gasoline-powered generators.

Sun King was founded in 2007 to address this urgent need. The company manages the entire value chain: it creates high-quality solar products (ranging from simple portable lamps to complete home systems), trains thousands of field agents to install them, and provides local after-sales service.

But Sun King’s true revolution lies in its financing model. Through its pay-as-you-go (or microcredit) system, the company allows its customers to pay for their solar equipment in small installments tailored to their budget.
