B2B Software: Septeo Acquires stp.one and Accelerates Its Expansion into the European LegalTech Market
This strategic transaction, carried out with the Bregal Unternehmerkapital fund (which specializes in mid-cap companies), marks a decisive step in Septeo’s growth strategy, as the company aims to become a true European software leader. As evidence of this momentum, its CEO, Hugues Galambrun, was recently named CEO of the Year 2025 by the business publication EU Business News, an honor that recognizes his managerial and financial excellence across Europe.
This well-established Occitan company develops vertical software suites designed to simplify the day-to-day work of legal and real estate professionals. Specifically, its highly secure tools help lawyers, notaries, judicial officers (formerly bailiffs), and legal departments manage their cases, communications, and documents seamlessly.
For its part, stp.one is firmly established in Germany and has established itself as an indispensable partner for law firms and insolvency administrators across the Rhine, thanks to its SaaS platforms for case management, compliance, and process automation. By joining the Septeo family, the German company will benefit from the French group’s clout and innovative strength to accelerate the development of its products.
The Financial Boom in Europe's LegalTech Market
The European legal software (LegalTech) market is undergoing a phase of consolidation and accelerated growth. Driven by the mandatory transition to the cloud and stricter regulations on compliance and data protection (GDPR), this sector is now worth several billion euros across Europe, with an average annual growth rate in the double digits.
The acquisition of stp.one enables Septeo to establish a dominant position in the German market—Europe’s largest economy—where the digitization rate of law firms and courts represents an exceptional source of value for SaaS platform providers.
AI and the Cloud: Expected Technological Synergies
stp.one's affiliation with Septeo will result in the immediate sharing of the cutting-edge technologies developed by the French group:
- Generative Artificial Intelligence: The integration of AI modules into stp.one’s solutions will enable the automated analysis of thousands of pages of case law, the drafting of standard contracts, and the automatic detection of non-compliance risks in insolvency cases.
- Cloud Sovereignty: Septeo will provide the German company with access to its highly secure cloud infrastructure, which meets the most stringent regulatory requirements for regulated professions in Europe—a major competitive advantage against U.S. software giants.
“This transaction represents a significant milestone in our European journey. With the arrival of stp.one, we now have everything we need to accelerate our geographic expansion and strengthen our ability to provide cutting-edge solutions to professionals across the continent,” explains Hugues Galambrun, CEO of Septeo.
Oliver Bendig, CEO of stp.one, adds: “In recent years, we have built a multi-vertical, scalable LegalTech platform that is a leader in our market. Joining Septeo will allow us to move faster and deliver even more value to our clients across Europe.”
Timeline of an Expansion: The Acquisition Roadmap (2020–2025)
The acquisition of stp.one marks the culmination of a systematic external growth strategy that Septeo has been pursuing since the beginning of the decade to diversify its business segments and expand its geographic footprint:
- 2020–2022 (Building a Solid Foundation): Structuring the company’s offering in France for notaries and real estate professionals, supported by the acquisition Hg a majority stake by the pan-European fund Hg .
- 2023 (Sector Diversification): Acquisition of the Belgian company Mpleo (HR software for recruitment, leave management, and payroll) and the French company Misterbooking (reservation and billing management systems for the hospitality industry).
- 2024 (Focus on Southern Europe): Acquisition of Witbooking in Spain, a specialist in SaaS-based online booking solutions, expanding the hospitality offering internationally.
- 2025 (LegalTech Leadership): Strategic acquisition of stp.one in Germany, cementing its status as a European legal software giant.
Competitive Strategies and Shifts in Market Share
The European professional software landscape is undergoing a period of consolidation. Traditionally, the market was dominated by long-established legal publishers (such as Wolters Kluwer and Lefebvre Sarrut), whose business model originated in technical print publishing.
Septeo’s strategy is radically different: it is that of a “pure player” in SaaS software and operational automation. By acquiring the local market leaders in each country (stp.one in Germany, Witbooking in Spain, Mpleo in Belgium), Septeo instantly secures dominant local market shares. This multi-vertical approach allows it to saturate the European market in the face of more fragmented competition, while generating significant economies of scale on research and development costs.
