Tech for Good: Beewise Honored by Fast Company for Its Smart, Pest-Resistant Beehive
Beewise has just added a major achievement to its list of accomplishments. The company was recognized for its flagship product, BeeHome, a next-generation beehive equipped with sensors and powered by artificial intelligence. This system analyzes the bees’ living conditions and the colony’s overall health 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To select the winners from among more than 1,500 entries, the team of journalists and experts uses five strict criteria: actual impact on society or the environment, the relevance of the design (hardware and software), the potential for large-scale deployment, the degree of innovation, and, finally, the project’s commercial maturity.
With its smart hives, Beewise is addressing one of the most critical environmental challenges of our century: the massive decline in bee populations. In the United States, nearly half of all colonies disappeared in a single year—an alarming situation for global food production, since bees pollinate about one-third of our crops. One of the main culprits behind this mass die-off is the varroa mite, a particularly deadly parasitic mite.
Automated Heat Treatment: BeeHome's Performance Metrics
To eradicate this scourge, Beewise has developed a thermal chamber that is directly integrated into the heart of the BeeHome module. Capable of eliminating 99% of varroa mites without using any chemicals, this approach avoids harming the bees, disrupting honey production, or causing the parasites to develop resistance.
Artificial intelligence detects the presence of the mite and immediately adjusts the temperature in a highly targeted manner, based on the needs of each hive. This technology has also been successfully tested in Thailand, in partnership with Auburn University, against another devastating parasite (the Tropilaelaps mite), achieving a perfect 100% elimination rate .
