Sierra Space announces that it has joined forces with Blue Origin, the company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, in a joint project for a commercial space station called Orbital Reef.
The station could be used by researchers, industrialists and even tourists. It also aims to develop economic activity in low-Earth orbit and open up new markets in space.
Sierra Space is responsible for the development of Dream Chaser, a cargo spaceplane designed to carry several tons of equipment into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and shuttle between Orbital Reef and Earth, and possibly to the International Space Station (ISS).
Blue Origin and Sierra Space have not provided information on the payload volume and number of people who will be able to occupy Orbital Reef, but it is assumed that it will be able to accommodate a crew of at least eight.
