Present in the Vintage Altaroc Odyssey 2021, 80 Acres Farms has just inaugurated its largest vertical farm, covering an area of 18,500m2. Located in Florence, Kentucky, it represents an investment of $95 million and is expected to create 125 jobs.
This farm - the 9th owned by the company - is three times larger than their previous largest facility, and four to five times more productive.
This unique facility can produce food all year round, delivered to the consumer's table within a day of harvest. The food, which is natural, healthy, GMO-free and sustainable, offers greater resilience in the face of supply chain interruptions.
Going beyond the food sector
Today, 80 Acres grows fruit and vegetables on a scale that seemed unimaginable, if not impossible.
" Our rate of learning will accelerate as we build more farms, developing networks of high-tech facilities capable of communicating and informing each other. Across the industry, we must continue to go beyond lettuce to prove our worth. We need to find ways to effectively evolve our existing crops, including tomatoes, and continue to introduce new ones," explains the 80 Acres Farms team.
As a result, the company plans to go beyond food, even using vertical farming technology to grow medicinal and nutraceutical plants with historic consistency and precision.
