In India, the need for eye care is growing rapidly, particularly due to an aging population, an increase in diabetes, and unequal access to specialized care in many regions. Approximately 35 million Indians are visually impaired, and nearly 5 million are blind. There is a critical need to establish a comprehensive network of advanced eye care throughout the country. ASG Eye Hospitals aims to meet this demand by bringing care closer to patients, particularly in mid-sized cities and underserved areas.
"Our significant investment sends a clear message: no Indian should lose their sight due to lack of access to care or financial barriers," said Dr. Arun Singhvi, Managing Director of ASG Eye Hospitals.
The Indian medical company's goal is to enter 100 new districts (administrative units) each year, significantly expanding its geographic coverage. To strengthen its clinical capabilities across all regions, the group also plans to acquire 8 to 10 ophthalmology practices per year in order to develop cutting-edge expertise and consolidate local healthcare provision. In parallel with these acquisitions, the group plans to open 5 to 7 regional centers each year to support care pathways focused on advanced procedures.
This strategy will enable ASG Eye Hospitals to expand more rapidly, while relying on existing medical teams. Founded in 2005, the company has established itself over the years as a key player in eye care in India, with a model focused on common but essential procedures such as cataract surgery, retinal treatments, and glaucoma care (damaged optic nerve). By increasing the number of centers, the group also aims to increase the number of operations performed each year and improve early treatment of vision disorders. In addition to opening new sites, part of the investment will be devoted to medical equipment, staff training, and improving the patient experience.
