Locating a mine buried in the ground or submerged in the sea is a slow and dangerous task. Deminers often inspect the terrain on foot, meter by meter. Yet the need is immense: in conflict-affected regions, millions of unexploded ordnance render farmland and roads unusable for decades, while sea mines threaten ports and shipping lanes.
UMag Solutions was founded in 2018 based on research conducted by scientists at the Technical University of Denmark, including Arne Døssing Andreasen, its co-founder and CEO. His idea was to suspend extremely sensitive magnetic sensors beneath a drone, capable of detecting the slightest disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field caused by a metallic object. The drone flies over the area, and UMag’s software maps threats in real time.
Its V2Mag system can scan up to 12 hectares per hour both on land and over ports. The lighter FastMag is designed for mine detection on the high seas and anti-submarine warfare. More than 200 systems are currently in service with the armed forces of NATO and allied countries, and Ukrainian operators have been trained in this technology since 2023. The company works with more than twenty drone manufacturers.
In July 2026, Bridgepoint announced that it had acquired a majority stake, with the founders remaining shareholders and at the helm.
