In the United States, a large portion of the water and sewer lines is more than fifty years old. Leaks, seepage, and breaks are costly for cities, which must nevertheless ensure uninterrupted service. Replacing these pipes by digging up the streets is time-consuming, expensive, and highly disruptive to residents.
Azuria is the successor to Insituform, a company founded in 1971 that developed a technique for renovating pipes without digging: a flexible liner is inserted into the existing pipe and then cured in place to form a new pipe. Acquired in 2011 by the publicly traded Aegion Group, the company was bought in 2021 by New Mountain Capital, which refocused it on water infrastructure and renamed it Azuria in 2024.
In April 2026, Azuria partnered with Inframark, a specialist in the operation of water treatment plants for municipalities. The new entity thus covers the entire cycle: maintenance and renovation of water networks on one hand, and management of treatment plants on the other. It has more than 7,000 employees, generates over $2.5 billion in revenue, and holds more than 100 patents, particularly in robotics and artificial intelligence.
Every year, Azuria renovates more than 1,600 kilometers of pipelines and treats or recycles more than 49 billion liters of water for thousands of customers in North America.
