The contract won by Shift5 will enable the Marine Corps Operational Test Squadron to test the Insight Partners Partners-managed company's predictive maintenance technology (which captures and analyzes equipment-specific data in real time, in order to anticipate potential problems) on Osprey V-22s. The aim is to develop detection rules to identify maintenance problems requiring immediate action as quickly as possible. Shift5's technology could help identify certain incidents, notably those that occur when the clutch between the engine and rotor disconnects and then reconnects abruptly, which can damage critical components such as the gearbox.
This contract represents a further milestone for Shift5, which significantly strengthens its position as a provider of predictive maintenance and cybersecurity solutions for the military industries. The company, which employs around 100 people, hopes the conclusive tests will enable its technology to be integrated more widely into V-22 Osprey maintenance operations, thereby improving the safety and reliability of these aircraft.
