Caring for a horse requires very specific skills and equipment: operating rooms designed for an animal weighing several hundred kilograms, specialized imaging technology, and in-depth knowledge of the medical conditions affecting sport horses and breeding stock. These specialized clinics are often small, independent practices that struggle to make investments and hire staff.
Altano was founded in 2017 around a single German veterinary clinic, in partnership with the Swiss investor Ufenau Capital Partners. The idea was to bring together leading equine clinics while allowing them a high degree of medical autonomy and fostering the sharing of expertise among specialists. The group covers all areas of care: routine and emergency care, imaging, surgery, sports medicine, and reproduction.
In less than ten years, this model has turned Altano into a global player. The network now comprises approximately 110 clinics and outpatient facilities in 15 countries across Europe, North America, and Oceania. It employs nearly 1,000 veterinarians and 2,600 staff members, with annual revenue exceeding 350 million euros.
In September 2026, Bridgepoint announced the acquisition of Altano to support it in a new phase of its development.
